Help DAS by doing a sponsored event or by sponsoring other people who are taking part in an event. There are events throughout Scotland that you can take part in, or make your own event like Caledonia has.

Here are some events that people have taken part in for us:

We are a named charity for the Great Scottish Walk. Look out for it in Spring 2009

The Men's and Women's 10K Runs

Takes place every year in Glasgow. The runs have been completed this year, look out for them again in 2009

The Loch Ness Marathon, 10K and 5K Runs

This takes place on 5th October 2008. Find out more at http://www.lochnessmarathon.com/

There are many more events throughout Scotland, the UK and the world, and if you want to take part in any of them and raise funds for us, we will be delighted. Please let us know if you are doing a sponsored event for us. You can get an online sponsor form at dascot.workwithus.org. If you would like any help setting this up, or would prefer an good old-fashioned paper sponsor form, please contact us on 0845 123 23 20 or email info@dascot.org.

If you don't want to do an event yourself, why not sponsor someone else? The following people have kindly given up their time to take part in sponsored events for Depression Alliance Scotland

Patrick and Alex Day

Support our youngest walkers, Alex aged 8 and Patrick aged 3, did the Great Wee Scottish Walk along with their Mum, Ilena.  The boys will be raising awareness of Depression as a common and treatable illness and of our new website, www.lookokfeelcrap.org, which was launched on the 18th June.  Just as importantly, they will be having lots of fun!

Caledonia MacFarlane

On May 9th, 2008 Caledonia walked 14 miles from Forsinard in Sutherland to Altnabreac in Caithness. Altnabreac is reportedly the loneliest, most isolated railway halt in the UK. She says:

I came up with the idea for this walk when I travelled on the Far North Line to Wick in August 2007 and looked up these fascinatingly remote places on the Internet on my return to my home in Edinburgh. The weather was perfect; sunny and just windy enough to make it the challenge I wanted it to be as well as taking the edge off the sun's heat. The scenery was absolutely stunning and the walking surfaces in excellent condition; I completed the walk in four and a half hours, quicker than I expected. Being out there in the scarely populated vastness of the Flow Country was a completely new and very spiritual experience for me, especially knowing that I was there doing something to benefit others as well as myself. Despite the isolation, I was never scared during the walk, though I was nervous beforehand knowing that this was finally It. The feeling of relief and satisfaction when I walked onto the platform at Altnabreac was quite euphoric.

You can still sponsor Caledonia.
