While most children like sweets, those with an extra-sweet tooth may be depressed or at higher risk of future alcohol problems, researchers say.
In the study, 300 children aged 5 to 12, of whom half had a family member with alcohol dependency, were asked to taste five sweet water drinks containing different amounts of sugar.

More GPs should be handing out fish oil supplements to depressed patients instead of turning to drugs, said a nutrition expert.
Dr Tom Gilhooly, a GP in Glasgow, said his practice now prescribed omega 3 supplements to people with mild to moderate depression, with as many as 60 per cent seeing a major improvement without antidepressants. [...]
