Sweet toothed kids more at risk of Depression

While most children like sweets, those with an extra-sweet tooth may be depressed or at higher risk of future alcohol problems, researchers say.

In the study, 300 children aged 5 to 12, of whom half had a family member with alcohol dependency, were asked to taste five sweet water drinks containing different amounts of sugar. [Read more →]

Internet addiction linked to depression

UK psychologists have found a strong link between internet use and Depression.

The study conducted at Leeds University found that 1.2% of people surveyed were “internet addicts” and many of these were depressed.

How many people are depressed?

You may or may not know that the most quoted statistic for the number of people who have Depression is one in five in their lifetime. But how correct is this?  Are a lot more people affected by depression but keeping it to themselves?  A recent poll by Turning Point put the number at 3 in every 4 people but a friend of mine reckons everyone is affected.

Depressed people feel more grey than blue

Researchers have found people with Anxiety and Depression are more likely to use a shade of grey to represent their mental state.

Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology at University Hosptial South Manchester, worked with a team of researchers from the University of Manchester to create an instrument that would allow people a choice of colours in response to questions that would reflect their state of mind.
